The Moncler cardigan holds a place of its own in the house's wardrobe. It is not a down jacket, nor is it simple knitwear: it is the hybrid piece that lets you wear Moncler outside winter.
What exactly is a Moncler cardigan?
The emblematic model is the mixed-material cardigan: wool knit on the sleeves, back and shoulders, a quilted technical nylon panel on the front. The knit brings comfort and suppleness, the nylon cuts the wind and provides warmth where it counts.
It exists in a hoodless version, the dressier one that goes under a jacket, and a hooded version, more sporty. Some seasons also offer cardigans entirely in knit, with only the tricolour crest as a signature.
Why this piece rather than a down jacket?
- Wearable three seasons: where a Moncler down jacket only comes out in deep cold, the cardigan is worn from October to April.
- More discreet: the logo stays small, the silhouette close to a classic cardigan.
- Layerable: it goes under a jacket or a coat without adding bulk at the back.
How much does a Moncler cardigan cost?
New, a Moncler mixed-material cardigan generally sits between €800 and €1,200 depending on the season and the material.
Authenticated second-hand, expect rather €450 to €650 for a piece in very good condition. The models we have had in store have sat around €580 to €590.
Our Moncler stock is deliberately small and turns over fast: we only take pieces whose authenticity is established beyond doubt. See the Moncler collection for what is available today, and the pre-owned luxury clothing for the rest.
How to recognise a genuine Moncler cardigan
Moncler is one of the most counterfeited brands in Europe. The points to check:
- The authenticity label: Moncler sews in a holographic label carrying a unique code, verifiable on the brand's official site. A recent piece without that code should raise a flag.
- The crest: the tricolour rooster must be crisp, the colours clean, the embroidery dense and even. Copies often bleed at the edges.
- The quilting: the stitch lines are regular, parallel, without puckering. The filling must be evenly distributed.
- The zips: smooth, engraved, with no catching.
- The knit: dense and supple. Rigid or scratchy wool is a bad sign.
Every piece that comes into Prego goes through that physical check before being listed. See Authentication & guarantees.
Which size to choose?
Moncler runs fairly slim, in the Italian spirit: narrow shoulders, a body close to the figure. If you are hesitating or plan to wear it over a jumper, size up. The quilted front panel has little ease — it is often what limits you.
Care
Cold wash on a delicate cycle or professional cleaning, never fabric softener on the nylon, dry flat so the knit does not distort. Avoid the radiator: direct heat compresses the filling.
FAQ
Is a pre-owned Moncler cardigan a good buy?
Yes, provided it is authenticated. The gap with new often reaches 40 to 50 %, on a piece built to last several seasons.
What is the difference between the Moncler cardigan and the gilet?
The cardigan has sleeves and a knit section. The quilted gilet is sleeveless and entirely in nylon. The cardigan is dressier, the gilet more technical.
Does Moncler run large or small?
Rather small. Size up if you are hesitating or if you wear it over another layer.
How do you check the authenticity code?
The holographic label sewn into the garment carries a code to enter on the official Moncler site. We carry out that check before any listing.
Do you buy Moncler pieces back?
Yes, on consignment or as a buyback. Details on the luxury consignment & buyback in Toulouse page.
