Stone Island is one of the most counterfeited brands on the second-hand market. Compass badge, labels, Certilogo: here is the method we use in store to authenticate every piece before it goes on sale.

1. The badge: the first check
The removable badge is Stone Island's distinguishing mark, and the first thing counterfeiters copy. On a genuine piece:
- The two buttons holding the badge carry the words Stone Island engraved, perfectly legible and centred.
- The compass is correctly proportioned, with dense, even embroidery. On fakes, the yellow reed is often dull, the green too light, and the embroidery has loose threads.
- The black outline of the badge is clean and fine. A thick or uneven outline is a warning sign.
- The back of the badge shows a clean mirror image of the embroidery, with no thread wadding.
2. Certilogo: the official check
Since roughly 2014, Stone Island pieces have carried a Certilogo authentication system: a 12-digit code and a QR code on the inner label. Go to certilogo.com, enter the code or scan the QR: the answer is immediate. Careful: a valid code is not enough, because counterfeiters copy genuine codes. Certilogo must confirm that the product matches (category, season).
3. The inner labels
- The composition label is crisply printed, with no spelling mistakes and high-definition care symbols.
- The Stone Island logo font on the collar label is specific: always compare it with a genuine piece from the same period.
- The ART label (article number) follows a precise format indicating the season, the category and the model. An ART number inconsistent with the garment is disqualifying.
4. Stitching, zips and finishes
- The stitching is straight, dense and even, including in hidden areas (inside the pockets, the lining).
- The zips are usually quality YKK or Lampo, running smoothly.
- The press studs carry the brand name cleanly engraved.
- On garment-dyed pieces (the brand's signature), the colour is deep and slightly uneven. A flat, uniform colour is suspect.
5. The warning signs
- A price that is too good to be true on a piece in high demand.
- A seller who refuses to show the Certilogo label or the badge buttons.
- Blurry photos, or only official brand photos.
FAQ
Can you authenticate a Stone Island without the badge?
Yes. The badge is easily lost in second-hand. Authentication then rests on the labels (ART, Certilogo), the buttons, the stitching and the quality of the materials. A missing badge lowers the price but does not mean the piece is fake.
Is Certilogo 100 % reliable?
It is the best public tool, but it must be cross-checked with a physical inspection: genuine codes are sometimes copied onto counterfeits.
Do older pieces (before 2014) have a Certilogo?
No. For vintage pieces, authentication rests entirely on expertise: period labels, cuts, materials and ART numbers.
Where can you have a Stone Island authenticated in Toulouse?
